the notepad and pencil are there for the intrusive parenthetical words that come rushing in through the door without knocking interruption demanding attention and if you give it none it just walks right back out through that door sometimes slamming it it will be a while before hearing from it again so take down a note otherwise i will forget all about it and it was probably something really important
